BIO
I grew up in rural southern Illinois, was the first in my immediate family to graduate from college and always dreamed of being successful, working in business and living in a large city.
I have a passion for music and have played the saxophone, piano and organ since being a teenager, but chose a career in accounting for financial security. These choices paid off for me as I got to start my career on Wall Street in New York City and in a little over a decade, was able to triple my income, travel, and take on new life perspectives.
After 15 years in Corporate America, I climbed the ranks to Senior Vice President and had the opportunity to lead multiple finance and accounting professionals. I was picked to be in emerging leadership development programs and many times experienced the discomforts of being the youngest and/or only person of color in the room.
I was “successful” in my career and could see the pathway to my next 5, 10 even 15 years and I wasn’t excited about it anymore. I wanted control and flexibility over my time, to not be bound by glass ceilings on salaries and get more enjoyment and value exchange out of life through helping people. I was open to exploring different ways to accomplish this and was in awe in what I found.
